NINTH EDITION!!
Aaron Starkey Music Newsletter
FRIENDS....this is the NINTH Aaron Starkey Music Newsletter!
If you are getting this for the first time..it's because i'm still learning to send email. If you are sad to get an email from me....please respond back with "no thanks!" and i'll gladly remove you from all future missives!
ok..lets chat:
first off...those that came and supported the Long Dark Moon Cassette release of Cold Atlantic...you are the best. Top 5 show of my life. The audience felt like they were part of the band by the end, and the band still felt like a band at the end of the evening. I take neither feeling for granted.
BUT, if you weren't able to come to the show...you should still pick up the cassette in person at SONIC BOOM RECORDS in ballard or via the Den Tapes Label bandcamp ->. get it here: https://dentapes.bandcamp.com/album/cold-atlantic
Come april, we'll be doing a limited vinyl release. so stay tuned
(whatever that means. do something to remind yourself of something as of yet to be communicated date and location? ok..)
It goes without saying that it's the new year and I've read lots of "end of years" and lots of "it's a new year" emails and posts and honestly. What do I have to say?
I will say that being front row and center to a tsunami over the summer while in hawaii while our kiddo was on another island...was one for the lifetime bucket list
I will also say that relationships and family such, as we are given and those we foster, are all that matter really, so keep working on the ones that matter to you
I will also say that you should protect your back and spine and exercise
I will also say that I really liked Pluribus (tv show) but i'm not sure i can explain why
I will also say that practicing my guitar with more intention this year was productive
I will also say that you can try to do too much, but that's ok!
I will also say that i'm so very grateful for all the people that were game to create and play music with me this year on all sorts of different stages and rooms and songs
I will also say that playing a guitar solo as santa claus for a crocodile packed with kids and adults was also a one for the lifetime bucket list. kids take santa very seriously
I will also say that i didn't get to see as much of you as I would have liked to have seen. not at shows i mean, but in general!
ok, enough OF THAT. What's next? WELL, it's a month of TRIBUTES to artists that are no longer here. #heavy #beautiful

tix: https://www.ticketweb.com/event/massy-ferguson-20th-tractor-tickets/
they've been a band for 20 years! and they've invited a gaggle of seattle musicians to come up and play a massy tune as well as one of their own. should be a fun hot mess!
and that's all for now!
If you've read this far...I invite you to write me a question and I'll try and answer it in my next email! I like questions!
...most recent questions:
Julia asks: If music was unavailable to you, what creative pursuit would you most likely develop in its stead?
It's almost terrifying to contemplate that as an option! I love both the solitary and social aspects of music. Seems like a lot of other arts are more solitary in nature? i do like writing..but would I get lonely? I think though...that acting would be the thing for me, which i did in college for a bit and really loved. the memorization part was always a struggle, but eventually i got the hang of it. it's also a team support like bands and there is a performative aspect, so i suspect that's what i'd be doing!
