SEVENTH and 3/4 Edition!
Aaron Starkey Music Newsletter
FRIENDS....this is the SEVENTH and 3/4 Aaron Starkey Music Newsletter!
If you are getting this for the first time..it's because i'm still learning to send email. if you are sad to get an email from me....please respond back with "no thanks!" and i'll gladly remove you from all future missives!
ok..lets chat:
current aaron status? I feel like i've got a lot going on right now. fall often does. I slowed the music train all summer, only to pack my plate full now. i'm sure all of you can relate. also, what a mixed metaphor: train/plate. almost as bad as my lyrics!
that said, I'm highly grateful to be busy, for all the reasons. When I was a younger musician I remember it feeling like "how do people do this?" and it felt impossible and always just out of reach. Looking back though THROUGH THE MISTS OF TIME I see now that I got to do all the fun things someone in their 20s can get to do with music. shitty vans, lots of mistakes and missteps, basement shows, weird shows, club shows, weird festivals, craps amps, 1 pedal? 2 pedals?!, cassettes, long drives in crappier cars. lots of stupid risks. and deep friendships and community that last to this day.
I think that the easy thing to take for granted, or not comprehend at the time, when playing in your early 20s, is that you're part of your own small cultural zeitgeist and that the folks that come see you and the music you're making, are all one and the same. if you're lucky, that stays with you a long time.
I still feel the threads of that 30 odd years later. It's way different now, different expectations, different uncertainties, fears, etc. The stage volume is still the same and the community of friends has shifted and changed, but, again, I'm grateful to play for anyone at all.
Let's talk about music!
This is your last reminder, and why this is the 7 & 3/4 newsletter, that the last for a long time Gibraltar show & album release is this upcoming Friday:

If you've read this far...I invite you to write me a question and I'll try and answer it in my next email! I like questions!
Aaron
PS: no one asked a question last time! So I will share that my favorite soup growing up (and maybe still today...) was Campbell's potato soup with hot dogs chopped up in it. A poor man's midwest clam chowder? Hattie's Salmon chowder is a close second though...
