SO...WHAT IS AARON doing? HOW is Aaron doing?

Well, Seattle summer feels in full swing and it's kinda a hot one, but also, halfway over? Growing up in central IL, it felt like the summers were eternal, and bright and sweaty, and the days were 34 hours long. At 53, the summers feel like the length of a google calendar on my phone screen. For our teenager, it's her first summer of just....sleeping in..all day. pretty amazing to witness. would like to try that again someday. maybe.

what else? oh yeah..been dealing with an upper back issue (cervical) the last few months and it "has" really...put a damper on things but....those things are looking up.

Bodies are interesting when they aren't doing what you want. Can always be worse though, ya know?

...AND...Long Dark Moon is just about finished preparing a full length record for release this fall, tracked with the mighty Ryan Leva. who is a joy to work with. Big guitar sounds on this record with Tony bringing in stage right guitar. lots of very opinionated guitars on this record. AND as a contrast...I'm dropping some mandolin on a song for the first time since the 90s. I think it'll be a cool and neat record. Look for us in early december to release it to you. personally.

To that end...ye olde band of pre pre-pandemic era, Gibraltar, is floating to the surface to release our unreleased record (vinyl!) that has been living rent free in my garage through 2 different presidents. Look for that in early october. We are, as they say..getting the band back together. Pretty excited about this one to be honest, it's been enough years and distance, that shifting into a Gibraltar rock set sounds pretty appealing. Holly, Moe, Nick and Myself will have to relearn a few tunes...and everyone that comes, gets a copy of the record. sweeet deal and more space in my garage for rolls of paper towels.

So when am I playing next?

Saturday July 19th - Long Dark Moon - Capitol Hill Block Party - 8pm @ Vermillion and you can see us with or without a wristband. 30 minutes. new songs, a few old. loud and louder. I think this is my 5th or 6th..7th? time..it's always a mixture of parking horrors and sweaty music. one time we played a post block party show at the comet. like...we started right as the main stage let out...it was some of the most intoxicated people i'd ever played for.
Sunday July 20th - Aaron Starkey (me!) - Tractor Tavern - Mike Frazier & Friends: A Benefit for the Ballard Food Bank - I'm playing a tune, and singing one with Mike. He's a heartfelt and authentic performer. A woody for the modern era. honored to share the stage with him.tickets here.
Saturday August 16h - Mike's Chili Parlor Music Festival - super fun day playing with ballard stalwarts Massy Ferguson, Freddy Luongo, Mike Giacolino, Braly Sangster and more.tickets here ...and i get to do double duty and play with old pal fredd luongo too. it's been a minute. maybe i'll wear a cowboy hat.

I feel like there's another show in here somewhere that i'm forgetting..lets see if I remember after i send this email....

oh, and another thing...the last year i've had the pleasure and pain of being part of the team launching the new Cannonball Arts center (https://cannonballarts.com) coming sometime in august. You haven't lived until you've converted an old bed, bath and beyond into a 66k sq foot arts experience with a 2200 cap music space in downtown seattle. Quite proud of it....come check it out this summer.
