FRIENDS!

It's October 15, 2024. What a month? What a year? Still feels like 2021 in a lot of ways. Hope you're registered to vote...

SO...This time of year is often a mix of original shows and learning the music of others and what I like about this contrast is that I'm reminded, directly, how many great songwriters there are and how many different ways to craft a song, not to mention play the guitar. Especially among my peers. An embarrassment of riches as they say!

To wit, Poison Ivy of The Cramps would be easy to dismiss...simple one/two note solos.. !/IV/V chord progressions...and on the surface they are, but they also work REALLY well. They are evocative and also provocative in their minimalism. A real affront to the prog shred of the day. Punky and Spooky. hard to do!

Anyways...enough of my ramblings... SO, what's coming up?

• Oct 19th - Long Dark Moon at Tim's Tavern in White Center for Skates's 10th anniversary show! This is the last LDM show for a while. get it while you can.

• Oct 26th - The Cramps Night at Slim's Last Chance -> once a year, I get to be Poison Ivy from The Cramps and play a big orange gretsch guitar. not to be missed!!

• Oct 31st - Graveyards of the Pacific opening up for Kid Congo!! @ Clockout Lounge - pure guitar jams for me for this Halloween show. I love sitting in with this band! post punk double stop angular delights all night long.

• Nov 1st - I have the honor of playing guitar supporting Kevin Sur at Miller's Carnation (opening up for Smokey Brights! (duo). I've heard amazing things about this venue and am looking forward to playing guitar with, for, and around these songs. (tix here)

• Nov 2nd - Conor Byrne...it's a special "Aaron Starkey & Friends") show which means I'm going to play some ol' Gibraltar tunes, some fun covers, some Long Dark Moon of course, and a few solo tunes that haven't been heard before. Opening up for the mighty Tsubaki! A very special Ballard night if there ever was one.
