ELEVENTH EDITION!!

Aaron Starkey Music Newsletter

FRIENDS....this is the ELEVENTH (11) Aaron Starkey Music Newsletter!

If you are getting this for the first time..it's because i'm still learning to send email. If you are sad to get an email from me....please respond back with "no thanks!" and i'll gladly remove you from all future missives!

ok..lets chat:

I went for a swim today before lunch. first time in 2? 3 years? it's really been a minute. And the one take away is that dudes still wear polo cologne, seems like a lot of it.. Also swimming was great and just like i remember and i'm grateful I had the time and space to do it. No judgment on cologne or polo or polo cologe, but it's a smell I don't often encounter in my day to day.

And i'm sitting here at Hatties eating hashbrowns and it's a glorious spring day. Usually i write more, as you all (all of you) know (especially if you were ever in a band with me) but today, i'm not feeling overtly verbose.

...ok. UPDATE!!!!!!

...so check it out, i started writing this email two weeks ago. Does that tell you how life is at the moment? It's now Tuesday morning and cold and rainy and i'm not eating hashbrowns. at all.

SO this is a shorter email than usual because..time is of the essence.

But friends, why do i write this? do i want you to "Buy a ticket"...i really dislike that phrase..."Hey, but some stuff!!", what i'd rather say is that: I, and my friends, have made music. Music we think will make for a fun time, a "rocking" time, a loud time, and part of what makes it fun isn't the music, it's the coming together, in a room, in one place, to see each other? To meet someone new? to have a reason to get a cheeseburger or salmon chowder in ballard on a stormy spring evening. That's what i'm really inviting you to do. that's the real transaction. I want you to have an evening with us that starts before you leave home. The intention of getting a ticket to a future momemnt in time that will invovle parking your car, or taking a bus, or walking a few blocks and then entering the fray of others looking to have something real and memorable. By coming you're not supporting me, you're supporting yourself and the life you want to have that, in some ways the pandemic changed? a life of planned spotanatiy? suprises? serendipity? That is why I venture out, on many a dark chilly seattle evening to catch a band i've never heard, or see a familiar band with a crowd of old friends. why bother doing anything else? it goes fast as they say.

and who can say really what will happen?

  • Friday April 24th...Long Dark Moon @ at Conor Byrne

  • tix here:

  • also of note is that this is the debut show for Barb Hunter and Airon Dugas new band: Epic Structures. if you know Barb and Airon, you know this is going to be exceptional!

And i'd be remiss and a bad band leader if I didn't mention that you can still pick up a cassette in person at SONIC BOOM RECORDS in ballard or via the Den Tapes Label bandcamp ->. get it here: https://dentapes.bandcamp.com/album/cold-atlantic

If you've read this far...I invite you to write me a question and I'll try and answer it in my next email! I like questions!

...most recent questions:

DaveE asked "When people tell their friends about Aaron Starkey, how would you like to be described?" Well Dave, the first thing that popped in my mind was Dennis Hopper in Apocolphyse now when he's talking to martin sheen upon arriving at the end of the river: "What are they gonna say about him? What are they gonna say? He was a kind man? He was a wise man? He had plans? He had wisdom?" That said, there is how people, from different eras and rooms of my life might describe me, but how would i LIKE to be described? I'd like to hope that folks describe me as funny, big hearted, generous, a bit grumpy sometimes, but generally decent. Not sure i could ask for much more?
